Persistence

Though we are mere
temporary
arrangements of molecules
caught in a welter of vast
processes
that began long before
and will continue long after
our molecules disperse again
into the soup from which they emerged,

yet we persist in
thinking ourselves important and
striving to make sense of
this fruit-fly existence.
