Lorenzo Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise (1425–1452) is one of the most celebrated masterpieces of Renaissance art, embodying both artistic innovation and theological symbolism. Commissioned for the eastern doors of the Baptistery of Florence Cathedral, Ghiberti’s monumental bronze doors are renowned for their intricate design and pioneering use of perspective. The doors feature ten panels, each depicting scenes from the Old Testament, and are a masterclass in both relief sculpture and narrative storytelling. Ghiberti’s meticulous attention to detail, as well as his groundbreaking use of linear perspective, set a new standard for Renaissance art. Unlike previous Gothic works, which were more flat and symbolic, Ghiberti’s reliefs have a sense of depth, making the figures seem to emerge from the surface
