Boy in striped Pajamas by John Boyne. The book explores themes of innocence, friendship, and the horrors of the holocaust. The book is set during world war II and it tells the story of Bruno who is a German boy, that is the son of a Nazi commandant. Brunos family ends up forcing him to move because his father has been assigned a new post, so all of his family ended up moving closer to his fathers new post.
Mother had frowned but then shrugged, as if none of it really mattered any more anyway. ‘Come on then, Bruno,’ she said, taking his hand and locking the door behind them. ‘Lets just hope we get to come back here someday when all of this is over (pp. 41-42).
This quotation from when they are moving and this is then Bruno and his mother leaving the house. The reason of why I chose this quotation because if you read between the lines it explains that they might not survive the holocaust or world war II.
