Aesthetics is the understanding and inheritance of the ideals for human beings. It will never be in a popular style. To me, beauty is a feeling in the heart that can only be understood, but cannot be expressed in words. All beauty is created by the mind. The essence is the independent consciousness without thinking, it does not have a true definition, because people will create their own heart of beauty with what they do and what they see. The most beautiful thing is what you like. Guangqian Zhu who is an aesthetician said, “Life is a relatively extensive art, and everyone’s life history is his own work.” Life is beautiful, this is an undeniable fact. As long as you pay attention to it, you will be attracted by many objects, these may be things you already like, because they struck a chord in your heart, or areas you haven’t explored yet, because your intuition was telling you they are beautiful.

‘Storytelling is not simply a way to amuse children, or to liven up a dull party, or to kill time around an evening campfire. Storytelling is how we know most of what we know—or think we know. The stories we are told, the stories we believe, and the stories we tell—both to ourselves and to each other—shape our view of reality; our ideas of good and bad, right and wrong, normal and strange; our most basic beliefs about what is true, and what is false.’
Human are the only animal that can tell stories. When the story start, it is ended. Because we are the storytellers. We already made every decision for it. We can hear stories from everyone. From one by one, we stared to know this world, we realize our life, we are looking for our value and impact people with our belief. For example, I always hear some stories that I had similar experiences, and I would feel it resonate with me deeply. Rely on these resonates, the story will spread in crowd, and make strong influence.
I always think that why people tell stories? Cause we are stories. Most of the stories are from what we see, what we hear, what we think in the real life. We look at life from a different perspective, describe one thing in different ways, That’s the meaning of ‘There are a thousand Hamlets in a thousand people’s eyes.’
Universal moral value
For me, there is no universal moral value in this world. Moral value is based on people’s minds, which sometimes hold “unjustice” opinion. For instance, almost everywhere on the planet is advocating “gender equality”—it opens up opportunities for women, and gives the justices for all humankind. However, there is not really clear meaning for “gender equality”. It just like a couple arguing and fighting in public if the male is attacking the female verbally or physically, people will think the man is doing the wrong things to the lady; however, people may have a really high chance to ignore the possibility of the lady does wrong things. In comparison, if the female is doing the same thing to the male in public, people most likely to think that the man might have done something wrong. Therefore, the reality is there is no real “equality” in human society. There is no “universal moral value” in human society.
TOK Plato’s ‘Mono’ part 1
Part 1: In part 1, Meno and Socrates are talking about what is a virtue. This can be taught? And they used a series of examples.
Is it possible to manage a state well, or a house, or anything at all, if you do not
manage it temperately and justly?
Then whoever manages temperately and justly will manage with temperance and justice?
That must be.
Then both the woman and the man require the same qualities of justice and temperance, if
they are to be good.
And what of a child or an old man? Can they ever hope to be good if they are intemperate
Only if they are temperate and just?
So all mankind is good in the same way; for they become good when they acquire the
So it seems.
And I presume, if they had not the same virtue, they would not be good in the same way.
For me, everyone has the ability to see things in the true light. That’s like a ruler in your life, help you measure your future. And we know what should do, what should not do. virtue may be taught by our parents and our teachers, we may get ideas from our own selves, or maybe that is the gift from the god. However, there is no single criterion for virtue. We need to use our own knowledge to determine whether is a virtue or not.
