Journal Entry - Max

James Patterson, Maximum Ride – Max, 309

The book is mainly about Max’s mom getting kidnapped and she gathers her flock to go after her. The main characters are the following:

MAX: a fourteen years old avian-human hybrid (aka, a girl with wings)
FANG: her right wing man also fourteen, also avian-human
IGGY: super awesome blind bird boy (Also fourteen)
NUDGE: 11 years old bird girl with a love for fashion!
THE GASMAN: his talent is exactly what the name implies 8-year-old bird kid
ANGEL: 6-year-old bird kid with crazy mind powers

; And that’s also known as the “flock”. Mad scientists in ‘The School”, a secret laboratory, created them.

James Patterson included comedy, romance, and action, the three traits I love to have in a book. Also the plot James Patterson made has lots of twists and turns, which made it sometimes confusing, and it also feels like reading something that is to be expected from an action-thriller writer.

When I started off reading this book, I noticed some interesting comic pages behind about Max and her flock, so I guess it must be interesting, but I wasn’t that entertained than I expected. It was actually kind of weird in my opinion. But then it started to pick up and slowly got better. Maybe it’s because I haven’t read the other books in this series but I am finding this book very silly and hard to follow. Also, several references are made to other books in the series, with an explanation of “But you already knew that”. Well I don’t already know what the author is talking about. He needs to give some background of the other books in the series instead of just assuming that everyone has already read them. The whole plot of the story also doesn’t really make sense to me; it just seemed a little unrealistic; like there were repetitions in the book; Flock kicks butt, someone gets kidnapped, Max saves the day, blah, blah. Of course it’s fiction and supposed to be a little fake but still, I didn’t get that basic feeling I did from other fiction book. A rating of 5/10 I suppose.
