2) Isabella Swan is the main character in this book. The book is told from her point of view as a human in a world where vampires and werewolves exist, but only she knows. She is a brunette, with ivory skin and plain features. Isabella is not that smart, as shown when she cannot tell that Jacob is a werewolf. She continuously makes rash decisions in this book, such as cliff diving. She does all these dangerous stunts in New Moon because she can hear Edward (her vampire lover)’s voice when she does them. But is hearing a boy’s voice really worth taking the risk? She could have died! Although I can sympathize that Bella wants to hear Edward’s voice, I do not agree that she should go out and do crazy stunts in order to hear his voice cautioning her in his head. She is a plain, simple, and naïve teenager, who fully believes that she is in love with a vampire who is too good for her. She underestimates herself at every twist and turn.
3) ‘New Moon’ is told in first person. Isabella Swan’s view of life is very morbid, pessimistic, yet passionate. Her decisions are mostly based on stupidity out of love for the people around her. Her love is so strong for her vampire, Edward, and her werewolf Jacob, and especially her father, Charlie, that it is almost unbelievable. She has a scary tolerance for all things unnatural, like werewolves, vampires, and scary legends that seem to be coming true at every turn. Bella also views danger in a very strange way. She does not view it with fear, but as if it was nothing new and something that she is insanely adapted to. She has a very convincing way about her, and has no trouble getting what she wants, except becoming a vampire, which is a long argued topic in this book.
4) I was rather disgusted with New Moon. The first part of this four-part saga was actually very entertaining, and quite a good book all together. I could sense the parts where the author struggled to describe Bella’s emptiness in this book, and I sympathize with that, but I am a hard critic. If Stephenie Meyer knew she was going to have trouble writing about that topic, then she should not have brought it up and wasted about a hundred pages of a sloppily written book. I know that Stephenie Meyer is a very skilled author, but she really let me down in New Moon. I had expected a book packed with 500 pages of excitement, confusion, action, you get the picture. Instead, she had provided me with a drowsy novel about Bella’s slow and stupid recovery from being left behind. To begin with, Bella’s failure to grasp at a normal life after Edward left was exceedingly ridiculous. Then after that, Bella does not realize Jacob Black is a werewolf. I understand that there are silly, and even stupid people in this world, but Bella is not a stupid person! Yet, throughout this entire book, she is seemingly blinded with stupidity! I was greatly disappointed in this book, and was disgusted with it.
