Dear The Hobbit (End of book post)

The book, The Hobbit is written by J.R.R Tolkien and is about a hobbit, and thirteen dwarfs who goes on a quest. Their aim is to find the dwarfs’ forefathers treasures hidden in a mountain. This book talks about their journey and the dangers they face on their way there. The Hobbit is actually a prologue to the trilogy The Lord Of The Rings, and The Hobbit explains how the main character, Bilbo Baggins got the ring, which The Lord Of The Rings is all about, in the first place.

The Hobbit is an adventurous and exciting book in the fantasy genre, and this book fits to both boys and girls. However, you do have to like fantasy stories to enjoy this book. As the fantasy genre is not usually my cup of tea, this was definitely not one of my favorite books, but I do indeed think it is good book.

In addition to me not liking the fantasy genre that much I also found the book a little boring, and quite slow at places. There are many “slow” moments throughout the book, when nothing really is going, and the beginning is especially like this. However, there are many exciting moments as well and I thought the book got better as I came closer to the ending. Another reason I didn’t find this book that interesting was because of the author’s writing style. I feel like sometimes J.R.R Tolkien would spoil what was going to happen later in the book because of the way he writes.

Aurora, I like the way you distinguish between judgments of taste and judgments of quality in this post. It’s often to consider our response to a story in terms of the ‘world’ of the story: if it is a world that appeals to us, we are much more likely to enjoy the story.
