Naming streets, boulevards, avenues and roads in a town after people?… Sounds fun 😀
Before doing that, lets define boulevard, streets and roads:
Boulevard: Two lanes in each direction seperated by a median of trees or greenery
Avenue: Two lanes in each direction in a nicer part of town
Street: Any number of lanes in each direction, but often associated with a town, city or suburb
Road: One lane in each direction
The roads, streets, avenues and boulevards will be named after political and science figures. These are some of the people that have made significant contirbutions to society. That does not mean that I do not think others made significant contributions. These are the names that come into mind. Also, in terms of importance, I view avenues and boulevards as more important, followed by streets and roads.
1. Newton Boulevard
One of, if not the most influential scientist and surpisingly theologian of his time. It would be a shame not to include his name (if places were to be named after people).
2. Reagen Avenue
Reagan’s decisions were instrumental in the recovery of the American economy after the 1980s recession, as well as his role in bringing down the Soviet Union. “General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”
3. Kennedy Boulevard
JFK developed the USA’s foreign policy and domestic policy. Furthermore, he was one of the key individuals that made the Apollo program succeed (although he was not there to see it). “No nation which expects to be the leader of other nations can expect to stay behind in this race for space.”
4. Churchill Avenue
Winston Churchill is known for his contributions in World War II.
5. Faraday Boulevard
Michael Faraday’s discoveries in Magnetic Fields, Induction, Diamagnetism and Electrolysis should be recognised
6. Volta Avenue
Alessandro Volta was famour for inventing the “volt” units.
7. Ford Avenue
Henry Ford has brought into this world the concept of division of labour, and is probably the person that created mass production in industries
8. Bohr Boulevard
Niels Bohr was a physicist who made a lot of progress in terms of helping people understand the stomic structure and quantum mechanics
9. Einstein Avenue
Who doesn’t know Einstein? His equations of relativity is applied everywhere. It would not be fair to leave his name out.
10. Lincoln Boulevard
Abraham Lincoln is known for his decisions during the American Civil War.
Besides the 10 most important figures I can think of, the streets are named after people who have also made significant contributions to society in the past:
- Jung Street
- Galileo Street
- Descartes Street
- Caesar Street
- Mao Street
- Fleming Road
- Darwin Road
- Hawking Road
